Origin: Invented in 1992 by the Nonino family in Friuli, northeastern Italy.
Base Spirit: Unlike most amaris that use a neutral grain or wine spirit base, Amaro Nonino uses aged ÙE grape distillate (grappa).
Botanicals: Infused with alpine herbs, roots, and fruits, including sweet and bitter orange peel, gentian root, rhubarb, and licorice.
ABV & Cost: Bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof) and typically retails for around $50 per 750ml bottle.
Aroma: Bright zesty orange peel, apricot, burnt caramel, and delicate floral/herbal spice.
Palate: Smooth and moderately sweet upfront with prominent orange marmalade, vanilla, and caramel, transitioning to a clean, gently bitter herbal finish.
